You use your kitchen sponge to clean utensils, dishes, and even countertops. Unfortunately according to a 2017 study published in Scientific Reports, doing so might be spreading millions of bacteria throughout your home.

"But it's much easier to disinfect your sponge than you might have thought. If you put a damp sponge in the microwave for 90 seconds on full power, you'll reduce the amount of bacterial on it by (up to) 99 percent", says O'Hanlon.
